How to close your OKX account.
Closing, multiple accounts and sub-accounts, explained.
Closing an account can’t be undone. Many people who want to close really want a “fresh start” or to keep funds separate, and a sub-account does that better.
Before you close your OKX account, do this
- Move all your assets out. Anything left after closing can’t be withdrawn.
- Cancel open orders, close futures positions and redeem any earn products.
- Export your trade history; you may need it for taxes or records later.
- Be sure you won’t need the account again. It can’t be restored.
If you only want to pause the account or you’re worried about theft, “Freeze account” is enough. A freeze can be lifted; closing can’t.
Where to delete your OKX account
- Log in to the OKX app and go to Profile → Security center.
- Find Freeze / Close account and choose to close it.
- Read the notice and complete the phone code, email code and Google Authenticator check.
- Once submitted, the account is closed for good and unfinished orders are cancelled.
Can you sign up again with the same ID after closing?
Whether your old phone number, email and identity can be used to register and verify again depends on OKX’s rules at the time. Ask live chat before you close so you know for sure.
If you want to close because you didn’t use a referral code and want to re-register with one, know this: a code can only be added at sign-up, never to an existing account. Whether starting over is worth it depends on how much you’ll trade. Try the fee calculator on our home page first.

How many OKX accounts can one person have?
Each phone number or email can register one OKX account, and one person’s identity can usually verify only one main account. OKX’s rules are final.
- Opening extra accounts with a relative’s or friend’s identity breaks the user agreement, and the accounts and assets can be restricted.
- Lending or renting your account to others can pull you into money laundering or scam fund flows, with legal risk.
- If you need several accounts to keep money apart, the proper way is a sub-account.
How to create an OKX sub-account, and what it’s for
A sub-account sits under your main account and shares its identity verification, but its funds and positions are kept separate.
| Use | How |
|---|---|
| Separate long-term holdings from short-term trades | Keep spot holdings in one sub-account and short-term trading in another |
| Isolate futures risk | Put futures in their own sub-account so a liquidation can’t touch other funds |
| Run bots or the API | Create API keys for a sub-account and leave the main account alone |
To open one: Profile → Sub-accounts → Create sub-account. Regular users can create a limited number (the OKX Help Center says 5 besides the main account); VIP users get more, as shown on the page. Transfers between sub-accounts and the main account are free.
Can you change verified identity details?
Once your name and ID number pass verification, you usually can’t change them yourself. For an expired ID or a verification mistake, contact live chat and resubmit documents as instructed. You can’t transfer an account to someone else.
Closing & sub-accounts
FAQ.
01How long does it take to close an OKX account?
It’s processed as the page describes and is usually quick. Make sure every asset is out before you submit.
02Can I get money back from a closed account?
Anything left after closing can no longer be withdrawn, so move it all out first.
03I didn’t use a referral code. Can I close and sign up again?
That depends on whether OKX lets the same identity verify again at the time, so ask live chat first. Whether it’s worth it depends on how much you’ll trade.
04Does a sub-account need its own identity verification?
No. Sub-accounts share the main account’s verification.
05Do sub-accounts get the referral code fee discount?
Sub-account fee rules are shown on the OKX page; they generally follow the main account’s fee tier.
06Will OKX close my account if I don’t use it?
OKX doesn’t close an account just because you haven’t logged in for a while. Keep security settings on for idle accounts anyway, so they don’t get stolen.
